SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York. The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College is seeking candidates for a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor beginning in Fall 2025 in the Dental Hygiene Department.
The ten (10) month salary is spread over twelve (12) months to allow for consistent, uninterrupted pay periods. Benefits include, but are not limited to: Medical, Dental, and optional Vision and Flexible Benefit Plan.
The department offers an A.A.S. in Dental Hygiene. The Dental Hygiene program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), and the program prepares students to take the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) and the ADEX Dental Hygiene Examinations (computer-based simulation exam and a clinical simulated patient/manikin examination) required for licensure.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Clinic coordination, didactic, clinical, and laboratory instruction, student clinical advisement, participation in accreditation and assessment activities and committee assignments for the department and the College. Teaches courses, laboratories and student clinical dental hygiene practice experience as assigned by the department chairperson. In addition, performs as clinic coordinator for the specific clinic to which the candidate is assigned.
Performs related duties supportive of the educational program including:
- Aligning and coordinating clinical education with didactic instruction while assessing its effectiveness.
- Engaging in didactic and/or clinical teaching.
- Course revision and development.
- Overseeing, instructing, and evaluating students and faculty within the clinical setting.
- Supporting the program director and clinic personnel to ensure smooth and effective program operations.
- Contributing to accreditation and assessment processes.
- Staying up-to-date on professional disciplines and educational methodologies through ongoing professional development.
- Keeping abreast of program policies, procedures, and student progress.
- Overseeing, instructing, and evaluating students and faculty within the clinical setting.
- Opportunity to teach continuing education courses if desired may be available.
Requirements:
Per CODA requirements, candidates must be dental hygienists who have graduated from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field is required to teach Dental Hygiene, as per the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
The Assistant Professor position requires a Master's degree in an appropriate field with either three (3) years of teaching experience or an appropriate combination of teaching, relevant work experience, and scholarly activity. Additional coursework in an appropriate field is desirable.
The Instructor position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree. Individuals with less than a Master's Degree will be given four (4) years to secure an approved Master's Degree. Work experience in an area appropriate to the teaching field strongly preferred.
Candidates must possess New York State Dental Hygiene licensure in Dental Hygiene and Local Infiltration Anesthesia/Nitrous Oxide Analgesia.
Within six months of hire, candidates must also have a documented background in current educational methodology concepts consistent with teaching assignments on file with the Program Director.
Additional Information:
The minimum annual salary for the Assistant Professor position is $56,606. Salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
The annual minimum salary for Instructor is $51,914. Salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
