General Description
Community College of Philadelphia is offering a unique opportunity for individuals from underrepresented groups, interested in becoming a full-time teaching faculty member, to join our faculty for an 18-month fellowship as a Diversity Visiting Lecturer Fellow. We particularly encourage applicants interested in the following disciplines:

The Visiting Lecturer Diversity Fellowship is a paid, 3-semester full-time fellowship, which offers a unique opportunity for individuals from underrepresented groups to gain valuable teaching experience, benefit from intentional mentorship, and raise their college profile. The program’s primary objective is to increase diversity within academic departments at the College, consistent with the mission, goals, and core values of Community College of Philadelphia. The Diversity Fellowship program aligns with the College’s DEI pillar and supports CCP’s efforts to broaden participation, particularly in those disciplines and fields where certain demographics are underrepresented in the City and region. The Diversity Faculty Fellowship for 2024-2025 will begin in Spring 2025.

Faculty are an integral part of the larger Academic and Student Success Division including Workforce Development or Career Training at CCP. The Academic and Student Success Division is a community of learners committed to student success as demonstrated through equitable and measurable outcomes, innovative practices, relevant curriculum, quality learning, and a rewarding student experience. As a minority-serving institution, CCP faculty contribute significantly to our collective efforts to improve student success and eliminate racial equity gaps through the utilization of inclusive and high-quality teaching practices. The Diversity Fellowship Program supports these goals and the College’s efforts to recruit and retain a highly qualified and diverse faculty reflecting the cultural identities of our ever-changing student population.

We are seeking experienced adjuncts, new-to-the profession college professors, and recent graduate students from underrepresented groups including underrepresentation within a discipline/field, interested in becoming a College Professor. Non-teaching faculty in Counseling, Advising, Library and Information Sciences are also encouraged to apply. This program will provide long-term support to secure a position as a college professor, mentorship from experienced faculty members and leaders, and skills to prepare for future faculty leadership roles.

Our Mission is to prepare and support the next generation of visionary educators from underrepresented backgrounds to begin a long-time career and leadership trajectory in higher education. We provide experienced adjuncts, new-to-the profession, and recent graduate students with long-term support to secure a position as a college professor, and eventually move into faculty leadership roles.

Specific Responsibilities
As Visiting Lecturers, Each Fellow will be expected to:
  • Undertake duties and responsibilities assigned by host department/program, which may include, but are not limited to, teaching, tutoring, curriculum development, and/or administrative tasks
  • Attend professional development workshops
  • Create and develop a project that addresses a diversity, inclusion, or equity issues within the department or College

  • Upon successful completion of the fellowship, a guaranteed interview for a future full-time position within your discipline or related discipline as long as the candidate meets all minimum requirements for teaching within the discipline.

Specific Requirements:
  • Committed to working for at least a year at Community College of Philadelphia
  • Enthusiastic about working with our student population
  • Committed to attending all professional development workshops
  • Willing to participate and attend department meetings and serve on committees
  • Dedicated to developing a diversity, inclusion, or equity project under the supervision of the Coordinator of the Diversity Fellowship and in coordination with the department and the appropriate college division
  • Willing to learn, grow, and develop in a transformative career
  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and teach courses in areas of their expertise
  • Participate in course/program assessment and development, student mentoring, and retention
  • Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom and respond to questions or concerns
  • Actively participate in the academic life of the College; including participation in graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities and other cross-functional teams. Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school students
  • Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences and foster collaboration. Work with and inspire others to achieve college, department, and individual success. Proactively identify/address problems
  • Establish an inclusive environment in the classroom. Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College’s faculty, staff, and students
  • Strive for excellence in teaching through active participation in college mentorship, applying best practices in the field of discipline, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention
  • Utilize shared innovative teaching strategies and technologies for online learning and other technology tools to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population
  • Commitment to professional learning and growth, student mentoring, and service to the profession. Remain current in the use of technology, developments within the field of discipline, and developments related to teaching and student success

 

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must meet requirements for specific discipline/department/program of hire
  • Masters degree in field/discipline of interest

 


Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous higher-ed or high school teaching experience preferred
