Job Description

The General Studies Instructor is responsible for teaching college level courses, contributing to the development of curriculum in their field of expertise, helping with course design, syllabi, lesson plan development and assessment practices. Instructor will assist in academic advisement as needed. The instructor must be comfortable in multicultural and Native American classroom settings.

 


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The provisions of the following Instructor duties include, but are not limited to:


 

  • Teach a minimum of 12 hours per trimester.
  • Post office hours for students and public.
  • Provide service as requested by the department and the college.
  • Be actively engaged in the assessment of student learning.

 


Functions

  • Follow the policies and procedures of the College of the Muscogee Nation and its Board of Regents.
  • Contribute to the development of courses and curriculum in their field.
  • Design courses, syllabi, lesson plans and assessment practices for each course.
  • Obtain guidance (follow the chain of command) before taking action on unusual matters concerning program objectives and policy.
  • Must observe diligence with all academic deadlines such as (but not limited to) new-course submission deadlines, textbook orders and grade submission.
  • Instructors must be open to periodic evaluations including classroom observations.
  • Must be a willing collaborator with instructors in other fields.
  • Able to work with Student Success Center as part of a team to protect the retention of the student.
  • Willing to teach, or learn to teach, through distance education.
  • Serve on College committees.
  • Remain current in your field through professional development and periodical subscriptions.
  • Stay up to date on safety reports and practices concerning your field of study.
  • Annual leave must be taken during breaks between trimesters and should not be taken during trimesters when classes are being held. Also, prior to and after the trimester, faculty must be available to start or complete their instructional responsibilities.
  • Shall perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Minimum Requirements – An earned master’s degree in Speech, Humanities, Government, Psychology or a master’s degree in a related field of study from an accredited institution with18 hours of graduate level courses in the discipline. Teaching experience and knowledge of administration within tribal governmental structures.

 

  • If you do not have a master’s degree in the course you wish to instruct, a master’s degree with 18 hours of graduate level course work in the discipline is required.

 


2. Preferred Requirements –Terminal degree and evidence of college teaching and advising. Experience in tribal administrative work places. Exemplary oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Teaching experience in higher education.

 

3. Special Considerations – Ability to speak the Muscogee (Creek) language is preferable but not a requirement. Native American preference.

 

Licensure (if appropriate): Valid Driver’s License. Teaching certificate helpful, but not mandatory.
