DEFINITION:

To plan and coordinate nursing simulated clinical activities. To coordinate lab remediation and open lab for students.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives general supervision from Associate Director, Associate Degree Nursing
  • Exercises supervision over simulation faculty and clerical staff

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


Essential Functions:

  • Plans, organizes, and monitors simulated clinical rotation assignments for nursing students, including coordination of related simulation activities and operations for nursing.
  • Develops simulated experiences and schedules for clinical courses.
  • Collaborates with faculty to provide a bridge between classroom theory and simulated clinical applications.
  • Works with associate director and course coordinators to negotiate simulated clinical rotations.
  • Apprises faculty members of serious concerns and/or special problems with students during simulation/remediation activities.
  • Assess faculty concerns with students as problems arise and intervene after collaboration with coordinator and associate director.
  • Plans and participates in orientation of faculty members to simulation.
  • Evaluates student performance in simulation and lab remediation and informs clinical faculty of progress/concerns.
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area.
  • Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.

 

Other Important Functions:

  • Assess material, supply, and equipment needs for the nursing department; submit requisitions for the ordering of supplies; maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various activities; revise and improve activity format; evaluate various textbooks and participate in selection of books to be used for future classes.
  • Assist in the recruitment of students.
  • Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress and qualifications for graduation (required activity for all nursing faculty).
  • Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances such as blood borne pathogens; continually undergo training and train students in such procedures (required for all nursing faculty).
  • Participate in all functions related to implementation of the programs systematic plan for evaluation.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:

  • Classroom, laboratory and clinical (including simulation) instructional techniques and procedures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.

 


Ability To:

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both verbally and in writing
  • Analyze problems; identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Select, supervise, train and evaluate instructional staff.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of technology and equipment.
  • Effectively direct the provisions of the academic area to which assigned in support of the college programs.

  • Participate in the preparation and administration of a departmental budget.
  • Conduct committee meetings in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

    • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
    • Standing or sitting for extended periods of time

    • Handling varied tasks simultaneously
    • Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
    • Making sound decisions
    • Responding to questions
    • Demonstrating intellectual capabilities

 


EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Minimum Education/Training:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required. A Master’s Degree Nursing is preferred.
  • Must have a current, unrestricted North Carolina RN license.
  • Have education in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment. Once completed, this education need not be repeated if employing organization is changed. This education may be demonstrated by one of the following:
    • (A) completion of 45 contact hours of Board-approved continuing education courses;
    • (B) completion of a certificate program in nursing education;
    • (C) nine semester hours of graduate course work in adult learning and learning principles;
    • (D) national certification in nursing education; or
    • (E) documentation of completion of structured, individualized development activities of at least 45 contact hours approved by the Board. Criteria for approval shall include content in the faculty role in curriculum implementation, curricular objectives to be met and evaluated, review of strategies for identified student population, and expectations of student and faculty performance.
  • Have knowledge of current nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.


Minimum Experience
:

  • A minimum of two calendar years of prior full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as an RN.
  • Have formal education in nursing simulation and debriefing
  • Experience in teaching nursing education through simulated laboratory and clinical activities.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE) certification preferred.

  • Candidates are required to submit OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS for all degrees obtained prior to their first day of work or hire date. If the highest level of education is a High School diploma or equivalent, proof of completion is required.
  • Successful candidates who have obtained their education outside of the US and its territories must have their academic degree(s) validated, at their own expense, by an outside credential evaluation service as equivalent to the Baccalaureate or Master’s degree conferred by a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
