Senior Technician, MakerSpace

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Leads, schedules, monitors, and assists with the daily operations of the MakerSpace labs.

Assists with laboratory processes, activities and use of labs; including service, maintenance, and support of technologies.

May deliver short training and/or orientations on the use of equipment to users of the space.

In addition to machine programming and operation, a primary focus of the position will be insuring safety within the labs and the development and administration of teaching and training resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and implement Policy and Procedures Manual as guidelines for lab practices, keep current with new technologies and safety regulations and research/develop ADA procedures.

Assist in training, coordinating and leading the work of MakerSpace lab technicians; including but not limited to work schedules, lab assignments and maintenance of lab equipment.

Assist in conducting risk management assessments to proactively evaluate the physical environment of the labs on a regular basis.

Collect analyze and report data regarding lab use, effectiveness of labs, skills labs and activities.

Assist with the day-to-day operations of the labs and technologies; to include assisting students, faculty, staff and the community with various projects.

Collaborate with supervisor to implement new technology integrations, lead the evaluation of technology pilots and troubleshoot where necessary to ensure successful completion.

Collaborate with technical staff where appropriate in other MakerSpace labs as they are set up around the district.

Support and troubleshoot all computerized and non-computerized equipment within the labs.

Research, evaluate and recommend purchases of appropriate equipment and software.

Assist HCC IT technicians as determined by departmental leadership.

May be required travel to multiple campus locations, and work evening and weekend hours as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3 years’ experience setting up, operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a studio, MakerSpace or shop environment required.

  • Experience implementing and supporting policies and procedures on the safe use of tools and equipment in a studio, MakerSpace or shop environment preferred
Licensing & Certification

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
