The Scripps Health Histology Lab services all our Scripps Health locations. Located on the 4th floor of the Poole building, the lab features stunning views of La Jolla, state-of-the-art equipment and digital pathology workflows. We are looking for a Lead Histotech to help troubleshoot and dictate workflow on the day shift.
Duties include:
- Responsible for the daily QC of H&E, special stains, and IHC stains as well as case distribution and troubleshooting. Demonstrates proficiency in all areas of Histology.
- Responsible for reagent and tissue control inventory. This includes researching and identification of key tissue components within surgical cases, embedding tissues, staining verification for intended use, and documentation for use as control.
- Works closely with Pathologists to ensure best practices in the Histology Laboratory.
- Assists with other departmental duties as needed including training of new personnel
- Serves as a liaison for the laboratory and interacts with physicians and customers to provide a positive outcome
- Performs all job duties in a timely manner while ensuring performance and safety standards are met. Documents activities and results consistently, thoroughly, and legibly.
Required:
- Experience in all areas of Histology (processing, embedding, cutting, H&E, special stains, and IHC).
- Optimizing histology stains according to Medical Director preference.
- Good critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient with medical terminology, with an understanding of computer systems.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in a Science field.
- High volume, Clinical Histology Lab experience
- Experience using the Sakura Prisma, Leica BOND III, and Agilent Artisan LinkPro or other staining platforms.
- Use of LIS (AP Beaker preferred).
- HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP)
