Job Description
This position provides assistance to the Financial Aid Director and Assistant Director. This position independently implements, coordinates, and updates the confidential student financial aid files. The end result of this process assures complete, accurate and timely disbursement of all funds to students and accurate relative information to admissions, registration and business office.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- English sufficient to (1) speak, read, understand, and respond to written and spoken communications with customers; and (2) file and retrieve information based on content, using alphabetical filing practices.
- Specialized terminology related to federal and state financial aid programs, federal and state regulations, MN State and college policies, and financial aid information sufficient to give accurate information to students/potential students, parents and instructors.
Skill in:
- Customer service sufficient to answer phones, refer callers, and greet visitors with courtesy and respect.
- Accounting principles and statistical keying sufficient to monitor budgets, student work study and student payroll records, and financial aid files.
- Developing and implementing administrative and program policies and procedures in cooperation with management.
Ability to:
- Use word processing, spreadsheet, and other software applications to prepare reports, invoices, financial statements, and letters.
- Use customer skills to calm angry or confused parents/students so that necessary information can be gathered and communicated.
- Access the US Department of Education web applications. (cannot be in default on previously borrowed federal student loans)

Preferred Qualification
- Superior oral and written communication skills essential for daily activities sufficient to explain or describe procedures and standards to a varied clientele in a cooperative and respectful manner.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work without direct supervision and deal professionally with students/potential students, parents, support staff and administrators.
- Analytical skills to identify problems and act independently to solve according to financial aid guidelines.
- Maintains confidentiality of private information according to procedures, rules, regulations, and criteria.
- Ability to work with a diverse student body.
- Experience with filing, answering phones, typing, word processing, computerized spreadsheets, accounting software.
- Experience with ISRS, Financial Aid and other application software.
- Ability to stay focused in order to handle constant interruptions with ease.
- Flexible, adaptable and reliable.
- Report to work regularly and on time.
The salary range for this position is: $20.45-$27.12 per hour
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
