StaffPosition Summary:
The Payroll Analyst reports directly to the Associate Chief Financial Officer. The Payroll Analyst is responsible for the monthly preparation of payroll and payroll tax deposits, preparation of the quarterly payroll reports, and unemployment benefits. This position will be seated in our business office on our North Campus.
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and two (2) years of accounting experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
- At least 1 year of payroll experience.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent customer service skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other staff members and the college community.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in using an administrative information system, preferably Ellucian.

NoDuty and Responsibility:
Prepares payroll calculations, deductions, insurance coverage, wage garnishments, tax filings, and child support.
Duty and Responsibility:
Maintains benefit spreadsheets and reconciles to monthly invoices to ensure employee deductions are accurate and processes vendor payments.
Duty and Responsibility:
Responsible for payroll tax reporting (Federal 941 and NC Withholding), W-2 processing, and payroll tax exceptions including foreign nationals, students (FWS), out-of-state employees and any other exceptions.
Duty and Responsibility:
Prepares e-benefits import and export files on a weekly or monthly basis and checking for accuracy and correcting errors.

Prepares employee wage summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leaves, retirement savings and benefits.

Maintains payroll encumbrances on a timely basis and verifies for accuracy.

Assists with workers’ compensation annual audit.

Prepares the export files for Direct Deposit to be transmitted to the bank and provides scheduling for the uploading and approving of this file.

Maintains leave rollover is accurate and reconciled timely.

Assists employees with payroll issues by answering inquiries and providing information to resolve payroll discrepancies.
Duty and Responsibility:
Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure the timely processing of new hires, terminations, and other changes.

Ensures compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
