Adjunct Assistant Professor, Surgical Services

Job Description

Job Description Summary

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor will develop, prepare and teach Surgical Services coursework and may be assigned to SF's main Northwest campus or at any of the program's clinical affiliate locations. Additionally, course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online. This position will primarily teach laboratory and clinical courses in Surgical Services.

Part-time instructional service will be paid at a rate of $822 per semester credit hour and $32.88 per clock/contact hour.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory, and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.

  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.

  • Collaborates with the Academic Chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop lesson plans for didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences that facilitate the achievement of program goals.

  • Coordinate, implement and evaluate the clinical education component of the curriculum; (i.e. initiate and maintain clinical affiliate contracts, student clinical rotation placement, clinical affiliate visits and evaluations); ensure effective program operation and compliance with ARC/STSA, SACS, or other regulatory agency requirements.

  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.

  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.

  • Assists with the implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.

  • Understands and enforces college and program policies.

  • Participates in departmental meetings and collegewide committees as needed.

  • Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance through formative evaluations using program evaluation methods.

  • Appropriately documents student progress and maintains records including attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes.

  • Correlates clinical education with didactic education and evaluates student performance and learning.

  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students' progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.

  • Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.

  • Assists the Program Director with preparing reports for internal and external audiences.

  • Maintain current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.

  • Participates in student recruitment and advisement.

  • Participates in meetings and program advisory committee work as designated.

  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Chair, Allied Health Programs

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Faculty with instructional responsibilities in core surgical technology courses must (1) be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency, (2) possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA), and (3) have a minimum total of two (2) years of experience either in the operating scrub room role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five (5) years. *Persons approved as didactic/clinical faculty and/or instructional staff under previous ARC/STSA Standards will continue to be approved in that position at that institution.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred: Candidates with teaching experience in an accredited educational program in Surgical Technology.

  • Results Orientation – proven ability to set and exceed established targets.

  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.

  • Detail Oriented - Proven accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
