Position Summary

This position is responsible for the overall planning, direction, organization and operation of the nursing education and Allied Health Occupations (AHO) programs. Provides leadership in the development, expansion, revision, improvement, and maintenance of the nursing education and AHO programs. Included within the scope of this position is the supervision of faculty, classified, and student worker personnel who support these programs. Represents the college in the community to negotiate, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and contracts with federal, state and local agencies as well as critical industry partners. Provides leadership for fiscal planning and budget administration to accomplish goals within established budget processes for the programs within the department.

Primary Responsibilities


1.


Supervision
  • Hires, evaluates performance, trains, disciplines, and recommends dismissal.
  • Assures that required personnel forms and records are generated and maintained for assigned area.
  • Reviews and authorizes leave requests, purchase orders, professional growth, and travel requests.
  • Follows state rules in ensuring faculty maintain necessary licensure and in processing required criminal background checks.
  • Serves on screening committees and recommends candidates for faculty appointment, retention, and promotion.

Nursing & Allied Health Occupations Operations
  • Responsible for ongoing program evaluation and development, including alignment to program accreditation standards.
  • Oversees yearly scoring, ranking, and selection of each new cohort for RN, PN, and LPN-to-RN programs.
  • Coordinates program review in accordance with college policy and schedule.
  • Coordinates Course Outcomes Reports
  • Directs academic advising activities for the programs.
  • Facilitates and evaluates clinical experiences and provides counsel concerning evaluation of students; reviews and maintains current clinical affiliation agreements.
  • Orients new instructors to program and OSBN requirements.

OSBN Liaison
  • Liaison and networking responsibilities with the OSBN to ensure compliance.
  • Develops student clinical probationary contracts in accordance with Nursing and Practical Nursing Student Handbooks.
  • Compiles data for and evaluates all elements requested by the OSBN for the annual report.
  • Directs the OSBN self-study process for continuing approval.

Community Liaison
  • Identifies new healthcare training opportunities using direct contact with industry and nursing and AHO communities served by the college.
  • Build and maintain community partnerships and relationships.
  • Serves as a liaison to applicable external agencies and organizations, the community, the general public, internal departments, and applicable educational institutions, representing the College with respect to current and future nursing education and AHO programs.

Qualifications & Additional Position Information


1.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Education – A Master’s degree (or higher) in Nursing, with documentation of preparation and experience in curriculum and teaching in a nursing program, is required.
  • Experience – At least five (5) years of full-time nursing experience in direct patient care and/or nursing education is required. Preferred: At least two (2) years in direct patient care nursing and three (3) years as a Nurse Educator or administrative position in a PN or RN nursing education program.
 

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
 

Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).

  • High fidelity simulation, and a broad clinical base preferred.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies)
  • Knowledge – Knowledge of health care educations program and/or curriculum development, coordination and promotion. Board knowledge of and experience in the Health Care industry; Must be a licensed RN in the state of Oregon; Well-development planning and management skills; Extensive knowledge of Registered Nursing and Practical Nursing Requirements in the state of Oregon, knowledge of the OSBN procedures and standards for OSBN, knowledge of adult learning concepts/styles; knowledge of or experience with community college operations; general understanding of budget development; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Skills – Expert skill in managing large, complex projects; continuous process improvement skills; customer service skills; decisiveness; strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills; listening skills; effective conflict-resolution and problem-solving skills; computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite® products; collaborative leadership and supervisory skills; planning, decision-making, and organization skills; and budgeting skills.
  • Abilities – Understand, apply, and demonstrate the College’s core leadership competencies. Work in a team with diverse populations; present in front of groups; implement continuous improvement practices and techniques; make decisions in accordance with established policies, regulations and procedures; sustain flexibility and manage change; plan and manage a complex budget; manage key financial indicators from financial reports; provide marketing leadership; actively participate as a member of the department team; understand and interpret federal, state, and local government laws and regulations; use office and computer equipment and software; maintain confidentiality of records and highly sensitive information; collaborate with college and community constituents; demonstrate highly effective interpersonal relationships, one-on-one, and as a team member; apply good problem-solving skills; communicate respectfully and effectively at all levels; cope effectively with conflict; motivate and inspire; supervise, train, and develop staff; operate standard office equipment. Pass a criminal background check.

Other Requirements
  • Must have (or be able to obtain within 45 days of hire) a current unencumbered RN license in State of Oregon.
  • For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.

  • This position functions as an in-person work arrangement, working on-campus with either a set schedule or flexibility depending on operational needs.

  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required for more than half of the daily work period which is spent sitting while operating office equipment such as computers, keyboards, 10-key, telephones, and other standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, bend, kneel, stoop, twist, crouch, climb, balance, see, talk, hear, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials under 5 lbs. daily, 5-25 lbs. occasionally, and over 25 lbs. infrequently. This position requires both verbal and written communication abilities.

Additional Posting Information

 

This is a Managerial/Supervisory position in the Nursing and Allied Health department. Starting compensation will be based on Grade M of the salary schedule, in accordance with initial placement per the current Management, Administrative, and Confidential Employee Handbook. The compensation estimation below is based on the 24-25 salary schedule. Consideration to placement on the range will be given to related experience and educational achievement.
