JOB SUMMARY 

The Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning oversees and supports instructional design, technology training, and the learning management system. This role is responsible for leading and supporting course design, delivery, and the integration of emerging learning technologies across all teaching modalities through faculty professional development and instructional design. The Director provides faculty development to promote new initiatives that enhance student learning and success. Services and programs offered include, but are not limited to, advancing teaching excellence across all modalities, developing and transforming courses to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes, and effectively utilizing technology for quality course design.

The individual in the position will work collaboratively with credit and non-credit program leadership to support full and part-time faculty to advance teaching and learning to promote student learning and success. 

  • Facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. 

  • Evaluate emerging learning technologies as they apply to instruction, recommend and promote best practices for teaching and learning. 

  • Assist faculty with implementing and assessing instructional methods and technologies to advance quality of instruction. 

  • Work effectively with faculty to develop and maintain guidelines, policies, and procedures for the CTL. 

  • Develop, coordinate and assist in collaborative training for new faculty orientation and other instructional professional development programs. 

  • Develop and maintain a resource library in best practices in teaching, learning, leadership, and curricular assessment. 

  • Implement a quality, design, and delivery assessment process for courses. 

  • Develop and coordinate a review process for courses regardless of modality. 

  • Assist faculty with the development of effective assessment of student learning outcomes. 

  • Provide pedagogical expertise in consultation with faculty to advance teaching in each instructional modality. 

  • Provide direction in the design, implementation, and assessment of professional development programs designed to assist faculty at all career stages. 

  • Meet with academic departments and deans regarding faculty development needs and issues. 

  • Support and foster the creation of faculty learning communities. 

  • Work collaboratively with all divisions toward improving student learning and development. 

  • Support new initiatives and strategic goals in the strategic plan. 

  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate professional development opportunities that support effective teaching practices. 

  • Promote a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence and student learning. 

  • Provide supervision to the staff in the CTL. 

  • Coordinate the activities of the eLearning Committee. 

  • Lead the CTL’s program planning, review, and institutional effectiveness efforts. 

  • Facilitate instruction per academic credential. 

  • Supervise and supports the CTL staff. 

  • Establish and support training materials, tools, and resources for faculty 

  • Manage the learning management system. 

  • Demonstrated pedagogy understanding, consulting with faculty and other academic stakeholders to develop and implement advanced technology solutions in support of academic excellence. 

  • Provide faculty support and development for educational technology tools such as learning management systems, Blogs, Wikis, the use of digital audio and video, and website development. 

  • Oversee workshops and provide consultation on current developments and “best practices” in support of the integration of educational technology tools. 

  • Support college faculty and subject-matter experts in the design, development, and delivery of face to face and synchronous delivery courses. 

  • Consult with faculty on appropriate instructional technology and resources to ensure efficient use, application, and functionality for improving achievement of learning outcomes. 

  • Track student employment. 

  • Recruit and train staff. 

 

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participation in shared governance committees.

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Master’s degree preferred.  Other degrees will be considered based on relevant experience.  

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in higher education preferred.  

  • Expertise in learning technologies. 

  • Prior experience with instructional technologies i.e. synchronous, multi-media, LMS, WIKI, Video production, etc. 

  • Demonstrable expertise in the use of a variety of software applications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • Frequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking
