Position Summary

The Executive Director of the Foundations reports to the Vice President/Dean, Institutional Services and Community Development and serves as liaison to the College foundations.  The position is responsible for designing and implementing comprehensive institutional advancement programs, including annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts and gift planning, endowment, capital campaigns, and alumni and constituent relations efforts. The position is responsible for enhancing existing relationships while building new relationships, systems, and programs that elevate the generosity and resources of the community.  The position provides support for special events and functions of the College as appropriate.

Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule C1 (range: $86,795 - $128,692).  
 
 ANTICIPATED START DATE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2024
  
 This position will be based initially at Wallace campus in Dothan, Alabama.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Administration and Management.  Identify, research, and lead the implementation of a multifaceted fundraising program to support the College’s strategic vision.  

  1. Serves as the director of the Institutional Advancement department and provides oversight and management of all functions and responsibilities of the department.
  2. Participate in strategic discussions and develop programs to strengthen the financial resources of the College. 
  3. Develops annual plans and budgets for Annual Scholarship Fund, Gift Planning, Development, and Capital Campaigns.
  4. Monitors changes in laws, regulations, and technology that may affect program operations; implements policy and procedural changes as required.
  5. Continually researches, identifies, analyzes, and pursues potential sources of additional funding from federal and state government, foundations, business and industry, and other appropriate sources.
  6. Lead the coordination of events and targeted drives for corporate and foundation donations and sponsorships. 


 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Fiscal Responsibilities.  Supervises the finances and activities of the Foundations.  

  1. Develops and monitors budgets to maximize financial resources. 
  2. Maintains a financial accounting system for Foundation fiscal activities that complies with audit rules and regulations. 
  3. Maintains accurate records of all gifts and donations to the Foundation. 
  4. Works with assigned personnel to develop investment policy; determine asset allocation; researches investments; supervises investments; track and distribute Endowment Funds in concert with the President and Foundation Board 
  5. Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive fund-raising program which includes individual, group, and corporate giving; capital campaigns; alumni outreach; District employee outreach; planned giving; and estate planning. 
  6. Promotes, maintains, grows, and administers scholarship programs. 
  7. Develops and maintains systems for identification of donors and potential donors, ensures timely acknowledgement of all contributions, and maintains communication with external prospects and donors on an ongoing basis. 
  8. Identifies and seeks grant opportunities from private and corporate foundations. 
  9. Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of fundraising and alumni relations as they relate to the area of assignment.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Foundation Board.  Manages daily operations of the Foundation to ensure transparency and accountability in all aspects of the organization.

  1. Recruits, orients, trains, and manages an appointed Board of Directors used for outreach and fundraising purposes. 
  2. Plans and attends all meetings of the Board of Directors of the Wallace Foundation and all meetings of the Board of Directors of the Sparks Campus Foundation. 
  3. Prepares appropriate agendas, support materials, minutes, and financial reports. 
  4. Leads the Foundation and Board of Directors in the development and implementation of a strategic plan that aligns with the College’s strategic plan. 
  5. Coordinates Foundation activities with representatives of various campus constituencies, alumni, members of the Foundation Board, committees, and volunteer groups.


 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:  Community and Alumni Relations.  Serve as an exemplary College advocate in the community and build relationships that closely link the community with the College.

  1. Devises effective internal and external messaging and methods of communication in collaboration with the Public Relations department.
  2. Strengthens relationship with alumni and alumni families to develop an alumni association.
  3. Conducts consistent community outreach and actively participates in chambers of commerce, service clubs, organizations, and events within and outside the College. 
  4. Builds a strong and effective network of supporters among the College's external public such as community opinion and business leaders, trendsetters in academia, as well as successful role models in the professional and cultural fields of endeavor.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Department Operations.  Provides general support and management to the operations of the Department.  

  1. Establishes the annual strategic plan for the Advancement department; ensures consistency with College goals and mission.
  2. Communicates goals to IA employees; discusses accomplishment of goals and related expectations.
  3. Establishes and implements short- and long-term goals and priorities for the Department.
  4. Supervises daily functions and work conducted through the department.
  5. Observes and evaluates work flow within the department.
  6. Evaluates subordinate job performance annually; corrects performance.
  7. Provides for appropriate training opportunities for subordinate employees.
  8. Approves time and attendance for employees.
  9. Develops, oversees, and allocates budget and expenditures, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  10. Ensures purchases and related processes are followed and in compliance.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: College Expectations.  Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to do the job right are essential at all times.

  1. Reports to work on time, at appropriate workstation or department during all departmental/position scheduled work days and during all departmental/position scheduled work hours. 
  2. Understands that failure to report for work and/or reporting late without prior approval are unacceptable practices and will result in disciplinary action.
  3. Performs a productive full day’s work.
  4. Ensures that service to students and the general public is top priority.
  5. Demonstrates a considerate, friendly and constructive attitude toward fellow employees and students.
  6. Performs other duties as necessary.

 

 

Qualifications

  1. A bachelor's degree in communications, education, business administration, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is required
  2. A minimum of three years of professional work experience in development activities such as fundraising, foundation, resource development, and/or financial and investment management is required.
  3. Ability to work non-standard and extended hours  is required.
  4. Prior experience in a post-secondary education institution is preferred. 


ADVISORY COMMITTEE: The President will appoint an Advisory Screening and Interview Committee to include representatives of the College faculty and staff. This committee will employ appropriate procedures, including the review of application packets, interviews, and demonstration of competency, to determine which applicants are to be recommended to the President for further consideration. From all the applications received, a screening committee will select the applicants to be interviewed.
