JOB SUMMARY
This position is part of the student support team and is responsible to facilitate the access, success, completion, and transition of students in workforce training programs. The Development Navigator will conduct non-credit workforce training student outreach and recruiting, assist students with applying for scholarship funds, provide resource referrals, coach students to program completion, assist students with scheduling licensure and certification exams, and track student completion and exam pass rate data. They will provide outreach to students engaged in workforce training programs to assist in the identification of career or college goals and provide connection to resources as students prepare to transition from workforce training programs to credentialing, employment, or additional education or training. The navigator will refer students to the appropriate campus representatives or community partners, where appropriate. This position reports to the Director of WBCE Student Support Services. This is a two-year grant funded position. Continued employment contingent on grant funding.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts career education, outreach and recruiting, including participation in Information sessions, Open Houses, and other recruitment events on or off-campus.
- Assists students in the application for financial assistance and scholarships, award students based on eligibility criteria, and work closely with the Office of Financial Aid to ensure student awards are posted, disbursed, and reconciled appropriately.
- Provide scholarship tracking and record maintenance for reporting.
- Support students with referrals to internal resources and external partners/agencies.
- Meet with workforce training students to coach them through the process of identifying potential career paths or additional credit or non-credit programs.
- Coach students to program completion and transition through support and regular outreach and follow-up.
- Assist students with scheduling licensure and certification exams, track and maintain student completion and exam pass rate data.
- Connect students to career development resources throughout the College and county.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Bachelor’s Degree required plus three years of related experience navigating workforce and post-secondary education systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to build and leverage professional relationships.
- Proficient computer and software skills for data entry and scholarship applications.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, take initiative, and build relationships with students and employers.
- Demonstrated ability to assist students in personal/educational development and to work with students in a group setting.
- Understanding of the needs of diverse student populations and be able to adjust advising and recruitment strategies accordingly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is normally sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
- Visual Acuity – Ability to perceive or detect surroundings
- Mental Acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
- Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
- Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
College campus, direct contact with diverse students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common and shared areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms. Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with some highly technical applications and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations and College policies. Work hours may vary <29 hours per week.
